A continuity test is a quick, general test that is used to measure the continuous path of a cable by using a ohm meter, circuit tester or tone and probe kit. For copper cables, the leads of an ohm meter are connected both conductors to confirm a low or near zero ohms reading. In addition both individual conductors should be tested in relation to a ground source. Simply attach one meter lead to electrical ground and the other to either the tip or ring side. A high or infinite ohms (resistance) reading should be achieved. Fiber Optic Basics Books
