Continuous Wave - CW Continuous Wave - CW
An electromagnetic signal in which successive oscillations of the waves are identical and have a constant or unvarying frequency and amplitude. Continuous wave usually refers to the output of a device (e.g., an optical fiber laser) which is turned on, but which is not modulated with a signal. Historically, in the first half of the 20th century, this term was used in radio to describe a radiotelegraph signal typically produced by an electronic (vacuum tube) oscillator, in distinction to the irregular, non-constant amplitude and non-constant frequency signal produced by an electric spark or arc oscillator.
